Nashville Public Radio Renews Underwriting Contract with Public Radio Partners

Nashville, TN – May 3, 2007 –

Nashville Public Radio, operator of 90.3 WPLN-FM and 1430 WPLN-AM, renews their contract with Public Radio Partners (PRP) to serve as the station’s exclusive representative for all local corporate underwriting through June 2012.  Revenues generated from corporate underwriting help fund the informative and cultural programs found on public radio, and allow the station to grow and serve the community.

Representation by Public Radio Partners since September 2002 has boosted underwriting revenue by an average of 17% annually over prior year for the past 4 years.

Building relationships with underwriters hasn’t been all work.  There’s been time to party, as when WPLN threw a soiree at a local art gallery to thank business supporters, complete with food and entertainment from some of those supporters.  PRP found that RSVPs to the event increased when utilizing “e-vites” instead of traditional mail.  Seeing this success, led PRP to implement email marketing into other relationship management functions, such as targeting ad agencies in a branding campaign, and communicating special promotions.  The email marketing enables the department to effectively streamline sales activity.

Recently, WPLN has gained the ability from Metro Traffic to sell traffic sponsorships, and PRP will focus on maximizing this opportunity in the near term.

Nashville Public Radio, 90.3 WPLN-FM and 1430 WPLN-AM is listener-supported and provides National Public Radio (NPR) programs and classical music to Nashville, with translators 91.7 WHRS-FM serving Cookeville, and 91.5 WTML-FM serving Tullahoma.  For more information, visit wpln.org.

Public Radio Partners is a privately owned business providing outsourced underwriting sales departments to public broadcasting stations.  Operations began in 1999 when KJZZ & KBAQ-FM in Phoenix outsourced their underwriting sales to Public Radio Partners, a partnership that soared revenues by 50% in the first two years.  PBP currently represents Rocky Mountain PBS in Denver, KJZZ and KBAQ in Phoenix, KPLU in Seattle, WPLN in Nashville, KUT in Austin, Capital Public Radio in Sacramento, WGUC and WVXU in Cincinnati, and a consultant relationship with WYCC-TV in Chicago.

PRP is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona and has 41 fulltime employees.
