PRESS RELEASE
AUSTIN,
Texas – April 23, 2003 – In an effort to increase client service
and provide more companies with the opportunity to support public
radio,
KUT
90.5 FM is engaging Public Radio Partners (PRP), as its exclusive
representative for program underwriting. PRP will represent KUT
in local and national underwriting sales beginning June 1.
“Thanks to a good balance of local programming
and national news, our audience is at its highest levels in KUT
history,” said Stewart Vanderwilt, KUT’s director and
general manager. “While listeners provide the majority of
KUT’s funding, we believe KUT’s position in the community
warrants increased investment from businesses — investments
that will support our ongoing commitment to refining and improving
our public service.”
Initially, PRP plans to hire a sales manager and two
sales executives who will work out of KUT’s office in Austin.
KUT has been recognized as one of the most innovative and effective
stations in the public radio system, including national awards for
corporate support in 2001 and 2002, along with numerous awards for
program excellence.
“PRP will use its experience and expertise to
increase the level of business support to KUT’s underwriting
department, while allowing KUT to focus on what they do best —
programming and listener support,” said Jim Taszarek, Jr.,
president, Public Radio Partners.
PRP works with a handful of public radio stations
across the country, including KJZZ and KBAQ in Phoenix, KNPR in
Las Vegas, KPLU in Seattle, WPLN AM and FM in Nashville, and WXPN
in Philadelphia. KUT is the first public radio station in Texas
to work with PRP.
“We believe PRP shares our commitment to providing
the business community with effective sponsorship opportunities
while protecting the non-commercial nature of public radio,”
said Sylvia Carson, marketing and development director for KUT.
